"she was alone that evening"
The project Three Years Alone considers the basic human need for connection, in both space and community, through a personal time of restart and self-prescribed aloneness. In 2015 I moved into my parents home just outside Houston with my daughter after a divorce and set about trying to build a new life in a city I left ten years before. She and I moved five more times during the next three years, and the period was marked by intense loneliness bookended by a flurry of activity and people. Primarily autobiographical and lyrical in nature, the images reflect a steady heartbeat of life, a moving away from the definition of “alone.” Periods of quiet solitude sit next to moments of busy interaction and highlight the dual nature of interaction with the inner self and the outside world.
